The “Mulier” Wood Festival closes today: here are the four winners

For a handful of days, Cantù, with the thirteenth edition of the Wood Festival, was transformed into an open-air museum: a visual representation of what the Museum of Furniture and Lace aims to be and a collective celebration of its past with an eye firmly fixed on the future.
Yesterday, on the eve of today’s scheduled closure, it took on a different, more pink hue, in the name of the women who work, who create, who reach new goals every day.
An evening in memory of Clara Galotta, who could have been celebrated by many, but who was painfully taken away by illness at just 41 years old. It was the day, at the San Teodoro theater, of the sixth edition of the Mulier Award, organized by the Clara Galotta Committee and Pro Cantù. An event co-created by Laura Cattaneo (on stage with Biagio Barra) which every year also looks at social reality, in this case toxic relationships, which too often become tragic news stories.
Charitable purpose
And one that also has a charitable purpose, so the proceeds from the event were donated to “Il Funambolo,” an educational and social space for children with disabilities.
The evening opened with a performance by Karima, one of the most popular voices on the program “Amici.” This will be followed by a discussion on the topic of “The Value of Relationships in Building the Future,” featuring guest speakers Roberta Bruzzone, a criminologist and forensic psychologist also well-known as a television personality, and Luana Sciamanna, a lawyer and expert on gender violence. The discussion will be moderated by journalist Simona De Francisci, director of Videolina.
Four prizes will be awarded. For the category “Women who have distinguished themselves for creativity, talent, and resourcefulness in their profession,” Giada Mie-li, the creative mind behind “Jan-dC,” an innovative cosmetics brand that combines excellence and sustainability, transforming silk waste into precious ingredients for high-end products, demonstrating how innovation and environmental responsibility can coexist.
For the category “Female entrepreneurs who have managed a business by enhancing and innovating it,” Cristina Zucchi, for her vision, determination, expertise, and passion for the art of hospitality, which led her from a small family-run establishment on Lake Como to become general manager of the Lario Hotels group, a benchmark in the Italian luxury sector.
In the category “Women who have achieved significant artistic and cultural achievements,” soprano Carlotta Colombo won for her rare ability to embody the spirit of 17th- and 18th-century music with grace and rigor, creating performances of extraordinary elegance that have seen her perform in Europe’s most prestigious theaters.
The Mission of Care
A special award went to Mariangela Rubino for transforming her expertise into a mission of care that goes beyond external beauty, embracing human fragility with delicacy and respect. After training in oncology aesthetics at the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, she chose to put her experience at the service of oncology patients at the Valduce Hospital in Como, designing and implementing, with her collaborators, the “Giornate di coccole” project.
